The Department of Biology spearheaded by Dr. Leila Ombat conducted a 4-day training course to the Department of Education teachers last November 22-25, 2017 in Caraga State University. Fifty Science teachers in the high school and elementary participated the training. The purpose of the training was to build the capability of the teachers on practical work approach in teaching science thru the conduct of field and laboratory work. This was also done to achieve the goals of performance or outcomes-based education for the participants in their research activity.
Participants were subdivided into different thematic areas which included plant diversity assessment, macroinvertebrate diversity assessment as pollution indicator, endoparasites and microscopy, and chorion-allantoic membrane assay. They went out in the field to gather samples and conducted an assessment after which they processed their samples in the laboratory and presented their output. The participants said they learned a lot from the training and had new ideas for their science investigatory projects. They hope to attend more trainings that will be conducted by CSU relevant to their profession. CMG.
