CSU Launches Utility of the New CAS Multipurpose Building

< >

Caraga State University has recently launched the left wing of its new multi-purpose building as Phase 1 of the 70 million total infrastructure project cost for College of Arts and Sciences to keep pace with its growing enrollment and the growth in its offerings in liberal arts and pure sciences. The launching in the early morning of February 14, 2018 highlighted the three-day University Days celebration.

Phase 1 construction had a budget of 10 million pesos last year and Phase 2 started in March this year with 20 million pesos. University officials said that the new two-storey CAS Multipurpose Building will have about 6,600 square feet space for offices, classrooms, and laboratories.

Essentially, the new building will house the six long-standing academic programs in biology, chemistry, physics, mathematics, sociology, and literature and the recently opened three new academic programs in applied mathematics, social work, and psychology.

With the accommodation of the senior high school students brought by the K to 12 transition and the recently opened three new academic programs, the CAS is expecting a significant influx of students in the region who desire for admission in the university. The number may even be higher as the college is set to open BS Communication Development and BS Geology in the future.

In addition, the new facility will also accommodate the existing CAS-allied research centers and their laboratories, namely the Mathematical and Statistical Computing Center (MSCC) and the Caraga Center for Peace and Development (CCPD). Likewise, all science laboratories will be transferred to the new building.

CAS Dean, Dr. Esamel M. Paluga expressed that she’s truly grateful for the construction of the new building. “Our college has strategically focused on enhancing the academic performances of both our faculty and students tremendously in the last few years”,Dean Paluga said. “We take this construction of the new building as the university’s acknowledgment of our distinguished contributions in the last few years being the host college with a rather large number of departments offering a significant number of major as well as minor courses of study”, she added.

The new space will be configured to provide active learning in contemporary learning environments and to strengthen opportunities for meaningful learning experience and inter-disciplinary research. "This is what 21st-century learning and discovery are all about and we thank CSU for providing us an additional conducive space for that”, Dean Paluga quipped.

The construction will be completed in 2020. By th en, the new, fully-functional CAS Multi-Purpose Building will be home to first-class artists and scientists, educationists and students alike. GVB/piaea
