The Caraga State University (CSU) organized a Post Environment Month Celebration held last July 7, 2012 with the theme: “Run for the Environment and Responsible Mining in Caraga.” The event was a collaboration of the three (3) Degree Programs offered in the University, to wit: BS Mining Engineering (BSME), BS Forestry (BSF), and BS Environmental Science (BSES).
It started with a Fun Run from CSU Main Campus to Antongalon and vice versa and it was participated by the BSME, BSF and BSES students. Tree Planting Activity followed thereafter at CSU Main Campus. It then culminated with a Video Presentations regarding environmental issues at the Caraga State University, College of Engineering and Information Technology Audio Visual Room (CSU CEIT AVR).
Winners of the Fun Run included Miguel Reponoya (BSF) who won as 1st placer for the Fun Run Men’s Division, followed by Jerry Beter (BAT) as 2nd placer, and Christian Cubillas (BSGE) as 3rd placer. Manilyn Taladoc (BAT) won as 1st placer for the Fun Run Women’s Division, followed by Jeremaeh Delosa (BS Physics) as 2nd placer, and Jean La-ag (BSES) as 3rd placer. The winners received cash and medals.
It can be noticed that the three (3) Degree Programs who had joint efforts in realizing the event have “conflict of interests.” As such, the discipline of BS Forestry and BS Environmental Science is different from BS Mining Engineering in every angle.
According to Mr. Psychemar P. Mante, President of MESS-CSU INC., (Mining Engineering Students Society of Caraga State University, Incorporated), the principal aims of the event were: (a) unity, (b) establish a strong foundation, linkages, and networking concerning the nature and responsible mining, and (c) understand the discipline between the BSF and BSES (environmental Degree Programs) and BSME.
