Office of the Vice President for Academic Affairs

The Vice President for Academic Affairs (VPAA) is the chief academic officer of the Caraga State University and sets the academic climate and quality of the campus; this position is integral to reaching our academic potential. The VPAA reports directly to and advises the University President on the operation of the Colleges and makes recommendations on a wide range of College activities.


The Vice President for Academic Affairs is responsible for the academic affairs of the Colleges. The VPAA provides leadership for all educational planning, administration and academic program development as well as recruitment, selection, orientation, and evaluation of academic faculty.  The VPAA is a critical officer in budget development, is involved in expanding and strengthening community and industry partnerships, and evaluating academic programs in the University. The VPAA is the principal steward in assessing campus academic programs and works closely with the Deans of the Colleges and the Graduate School to develop and implement strategic plans.


Campus units reporting directly to the VPAA include:

  1. College of Engineering and Information Technology;
  2. College of Arts and Sciences;
  3. College of Science Education;
  4. College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources;
  5. The Graduate School

Essential Functions, Major Duties, and/or Accountabilities:

  1. Supervise and coordinate all academic units and programs of  the State College.
  2. Administer the overall execution of the policies on instruction approved by the  Board of Trustees as recommended by the Academic Council, and by other higher  authorities;
  3. Recommend to the President academic policies pertaining to curricula, faculty appointments and assignments, and academic programs;
  4. Coordinate the planning and preparation of  the annual budget proposals of  the  different Colleges and Institutes;
  5. Coordinate with the research and extension units of  the State College in promoting the research and extension activities of  the faculty;
  6. Serve as  the ex-officio chairman of all standing and/or  ad hoc Committees which  shall conduct regular faculty appraisal on performance evaluation, screening of  applicants for scholarships,  faculty development and other related purposes;
  7. Coordinate with other educational institutions and/or related agencies  to insure inter-program/agency complementation and efficient maximization of  available resources;
  8. Submit a regular memorandum of  work progress to the President;
  9. Act as Vice Chairperson of  the  Academic Council;  and
  10. Exercise such other powers and functions as may be delegated by the President.
