Overview

Mining Engineering deals with discovering, extracting, benefiting, marketing, and utilizing mineral deposits from the earth's crust. The role of a Mining Engineer may be quite diversified, and the field offers opportunities for specialization in a large number of technical areas. The trained professional in this field is well versed in mining and geology and also in the principles of civil, electrical, and mechanical engineering as applied to the mining industry. With the present trend toward the use of engineers in industrial management and administrative positions, the mining engineer's training also includes economics, business, personnel management, and the humanities


Program Educational Objectives

In three to five years, the Bachelor of Science in Mining Engineering graduates shall:

  1. Demonstrate a service orientation in the discipline of Mining Engineering in response to the needs of the communities one serve;
  2. Participate in various types of employment, development activities, and public discourses, contributing to the creation of an eco-friendly and healthy environment;
  3. Participate in the generation of new knowledge or in research and development projects in support to Responsible & Sustainable Mining;
  4. Pursue continuing professional education and development to stay scientifically and technologically updated in mineral related fields;
  5. Having competencies to make design and project plans, and able to manage mining operations to support national, regional, and local development plans;
  6. Foster high standards of professionalism to be globally competitive; and
  7. Preserve and promote Filipino historical and cultural Heritage.

Program Intended Learning Outcomes

  1. Apply knowledge of mathematics and science to solve Mining Engineering problems;
  2. Design and conduct experiments, as well as to analyze and interpret data;
  3. Design a system, component, or process to meet desired needs within realistic constraints, in accordance with standards;
  4. Function in multidisciplinary and multi-cultural teams;
  5. Identify, formulate, and solve Mining Engineering problems;
  6. Understand professional and ethical responsibility;
  7. Communicate effectively Mining Engineering activities with the engineering community and with the society at large;
  8. Understand the impact of Mining Engineering solutions in a global, economic, environmental, and societal context;
  9. Recognize the need for, and engage in life-long learning;
  10. Know contemporary issues;
  11. Use techniques, skills, and modern engineering tools necessary for Mining Engineering practice; and
  12. Know and understand engineering and management principles as a member and leader of a team, and to manage projects.
