The Commission on Higher Education (CHED) Commissioner, and Caraga State University (CSU) Board of Regents Chair Jo Mark M. Libre was keynote speaker during the opening day of the 5-day SciTech4Dev 2022 forum.

Commissioner Libre accentuated how research, development, and higher education are crucial to national development, especially amidst pandemic restrictions. Commissioner Libre believes that innovation and research are essential to the advancement of our future.”

CSU eyes innovative future in the 5-day SciTech4Dev forum. After two long years of virtual setup, Caraga State University sets forth its annual International Science and Technology for Development (SciTech4Dev) 2022 Forum in an opening ceremony held at the HERO Learning Commons Auditorium on November 14, 2022.

Aiming toward economic growth through shared dialogue and collaboration among key stakeholders from different areas of the globe, the annual conference highlights the theme, "Innovation: Future Proofing R&D-based Socio-Economic Growth."

In his opening message, the newly elected University President, Dr. Rolyn C. Daguil, highlighted the progress of the university in leading research activities in the region.

Moreover, he stressed how the event creates shared value by "co-creating with external stakeholders to understand social needs and to execute our strategies with stronger government support of academic research and calls for universities to contribute more to nation building."

Wrapping up the opening ceremony is Dr. Rowena P. Varela, Vice President for Research, Innovation, and Extension, through a video presentation entitled “A Walk Through SciTechDev2022.”

Kicking off the first day are three simultaneous training workshops on Writing Convincing Research and Innovation Proposals discussed by Dr. Rowena P. Varela along with Dr. Miraluna L. Herrera, Dr. Raquel M. Balanay, Dr. Jayrold P. Arcede, and Leo Jude Villasica; a workshop on basic GIS and Remote Sensing detailed by Dr. Michelle Japitana, Engr. Jojene R. Santillan, and Engr. Meriam Makinano-Santillan; and lastly, on the Essentials of Scientific Writing and Publication, tackled by Dr. Romell A. Seronay, Dr. Jocelyn C. Jumawan, Dr. Jayrold P. Arcede, Chenny S. Naling, and Engr. Philip Donald C. Sanchez.

The fora were participated by faculty members, researchers, graduate school students, and personnel from national and regional line agencies. The SciTech4Dev forum will run from November 14–18 with a series of activities and workshops from distinguished scientists and plenary speakers from different institutions and industries. Girvee D.
