CSU Celebrates Women’s Month and Supports GAD

March is International Women’s month. Caraga State University honors women and supports women empowerment by respecting the dignity of women. In culmination of the women’s month celebration, CSU held a forum on women empowerment and respect on the dignity of women on March 27, 2017 at the Sanchez Gymnasium, Caraga State University.

The event was conducted by the Gender and Development (GAD) office unit, headed by Dr. Lilia Z. Boyles in partnership with People Power Volunteers for Reform (PPVR), led by Chairperson Concepcion “Chit” C.  Asis. Ms. Asis is also a member of the CSU Board of Regents. Topics include Gender, Magna Carta on Women’s Rights and the Gender Program of Butuan City which was handled by Sangguniang Panglungsod member, Atty. Rema E. Burdeos; other speakers were Ret. Police Senior Inspector Celia Socorro Baltazar and Atty. Dianah Jee U. Saspa. CSU, Vice President for Academic Affairs, Dr. Rolando N. Paluga gave the opening remarks. NSTP Director, Dr. Nelia S. Raganas also pitched in.

On the other hand, CSU President Anthony M. Penaso with other officials were on simultaneous meeting with the Commission on Higher Education. Dr. Penaso however, expressed his all-out support on respecting the dignity of women, and the empowerment of both sexes.

President Rodrigo Roa Duterte  during his first SONA directed all oversight bodies, local government agencies down to the barangay level  to fully implement “Magna Carta of Women”,to ensure that women and men will be partners in  pursuit of the Philippines’ economic, social, cultural, and political development. Such pursuit of development is also anchored on the commitment of true compassion and real change.

The first national women’s month celebration under the new administration focused on Partnership for Change and Full Implementation of “Magna Carta of Women” (Republic Act 9710), captured through the theme: “We Make Change Work for Women”.

Last Year’s Women’s month celebration focused on the call to include women’s issues and concerns in the development agenda of the incoming government, inclusive of the Caraga State University. The call continues to resonate this year as the government endeavours to ensure that reforms espoused by the administration work for both men and women. Real change can only be achieved when both men and women join hands to empower both sexes.
