CSU joins 26 SUCs eligible for CHED medical scholarship

The pioneering batch of CSU School of Medicine will be eligible for the Medical Scholarship and Return Service Program of the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) effective Academic Year 2025-2026, joining 26 other qualified private and State Universities and Colleges (SUCs) nationwide. 

The scholarship, established under Republic Act 11509 or Doktor Para Sa Bayan Act, provides aid to students who want to pursue a Doctor of Medicine degree with a mandatory return service in public hospitals. It will provide allowances and subsidies per semester with extended assistance during their internship. Scholars will also be enrolled in government health and accident insurance, ensuring comprehensive support throughout their schooling.  

CSU School of Medicine will officially open its Doctor of Medicine Program this upcoming academic year. On its released intake timeline, the application and selection period will run from March to June, leading to enrollment in July and the start of classes in August. SOM is yet to release the specific dates, along with the requirements and detailed procedure for aspiring students this month. 

This scholarship grant will afford interested and qualified students to pursue quality medical education within the region, which is relevant to Sustainable Development Goal No. 4 - Quality Education, furthering the cause of the university to produce local five-star physicians and help address the shortage of doctors in the country.
