October 16, 2016, Sunday morning, five Miss Earth candidates visited Caraga State University. They were: Miss Chile, Tiare Fuentes, Miss England, Luissa Burton, Miss Hungary, Eszter Oczella, Miss Pakistan, Anzhelika Taher and Miss Zimbabwe, Sharon Enkromelle. They were brought to CSU by the City Tourism Officer Ms. Lilit M. Concon and her staff, Hon. Cherry Mae Busa and other city councilors with businessman Jimbo Sanchez and wife Shay.

CSU President, Dr. Anthony M. Penaso, Mrs. Penaso and children welcomed the guests with open arms and a red carpet along with other university officials Vice President for Academic Affairs, Dr. Rolando N. Paluga, Vice President for Administration, Dr. Armie Leila Montilla-Mordeno, College of Arts and Sciences Dean, Dr. Esamel M. Paluga, Director for Planning and Development, Dr. Tomas Austral, Director for CSU Eco-Tourism, Dr. Danilo Gaas, Director for Resource Generation, Dr. Emmanuel F. Low with other faculty members and staff with the University Student Council (USC) officers and students led by Ms. Deborah Jael L. Herrera, USC President and the CSU Band, the Budjong Ensemble and the Dulimbay Theatre Arts Group.

The guests were accorded CSU’s Dulimbay welcome dance “Kasi Kasi” dance ritual where the guests were asked to join and dance for delight and praise. They were treated with an offering drink and token giving. Both the beauties and the students were jumping for joy watching the ladies dance and shaking hands with the young people around. All five beauties went all the way joining the students in selfies and groupies.

Their presence was indeed a breath of fresh air in the campus. All five beauties were brought to the Clonal nursery where CSU housed all kinds of tree seedlings including that of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources Greening Program. They were given the seedlings and planted them in the CSU Eco-Tourism Park. Miss Chile planted the Yakal Saplungan Tree, Miss England, the Almaciga tree, Miss Hungary, Katmon tree, Miss Pakistan, the Quisumbing Guisok tree and Miss Zimbabwe, the Kalantas tree.

Dr. Anthony M. Penaso handed each one a certificate of recognition for having planted extinct tree varieties. The Miss Earth candidates promote environmental awareness and eco-tourism which are one of the university’s advocacies. CSU also promotes organic agriculture, proper waste segregation and climate change adaptation. All five Miss Earth beauties were also given the simple joys of goat & sheep feeding and cassava harvesting/picking. The beauties were ecstatic by the experience. The fun two hours at CSU ended at the Conference room where the guests tasted all the CSU products, like milk, chocolate milk, pastillas de leche, pandesal with kesong puti, and buco.

The Miss Earth candidates’ visit to CSU is the first ever and it marks another milestone in the history of Caraga State University.
