The scientific community values research because it serves as an effective tool of distributing and evaluating important discoveries. The primary goal of research is to get a deep understanding of a certain area of interest to develop something viable that might ultimately benefit society, such as a new service or body of knowledge. Developing a thorough and convincing research proposal, on the other hand, requires patience and dedication. A degree program must include training on how to prepare a research proposal. As a result, it is essential to teach and train research faculty on how to develop and construct a well-structured research proposal. Caraga State University's returning MS and Ph.D. faculty are meant to contribute to the university's objectives for extensive research and development output. Notwithstanding on their prior training in research proposal writing, they must keep themselves informed on the most recent advancements in research proposal packaging as well as the research priorities of the various funding agencies. The two (2) day activity aims to raise awareness of the proposal writing process while providing participants which include researchers and faculty members from SUCs with practical tools for organizing the facts and reasons needed to build a captivating and scientifically sound research proposal successfully.
The Office of the Vice President for Research, Innovation, and Extension, in collaborative efforts with the College of Agriculture and Agri-Industries (CSU-CAA) and the Caraga Consortium for Agriculture, Aquatic, and Natural Resources Research and Development, successfully organized the "Workshop for Innovative and Socio-Economically Relevant Research (WISERR) Proposal Writing 2.0" last February 22-23, 2023. The aforementioned effort is part of Dr. Mark Paul S. Rivarez's, a Balik Scientist Program Awardee. The Balik Scientist Program (BSP) is a government project that seeks to enhance the S&T capabilities of local researchers in academia, the public and private sectors, and industry by utilizing the innovative thinking and skills of Filipinos residing overseas.
Dr. Mark Paul S. Rivarez, the Balik Scientist Awardee, led the activity. Dr. Rivarez finished his Doctor of Science program at the National Institute of Biology and Jožef Stefan International Postgraduate School Concentrations in Slovenia last year. His areas of expertise include biotechnology, phytopathology, metagenomics, and bioinformatics. The first day of the activity was devoted to brainstorming ideas for attracting funding agencies to fund the proposed projects. The discussion includes tips on how to create an effective proposal that will capture the attention of a potential funding agency, as well as proposals that align the agendas of the agencies and the country. The second day of the activity was about the craft proposals and coaching with invited faculty members from Main Campus, Cabadbaran Campus, NEMSU, and ASSCAT. Following the presentation of the prepared suggestions, representatives from Main, Cabadbaran Campus, NEMSU, and ASSCAT shared their thoughts on the exercise. They express their appreciation because of being invited to this event, as it will help them in developing proposals that will be funded by external entities in the future. The program closed with a thank you message from Dr. Rivarez. He expressed gratitude to the incredible participants, expert researchers, and partner universities, which includes Caraga State University-Main (CSU), Caraga State University-Cabadbaran City (CSU-CC), Agusan del Sur State College of Agriculture and Technology (ASSCAT), and North Eastern Mindanao State University (NEMSU), for their passion and dedication. Dr. Rivarez also commended the efforts of Caraga Consortium for Agriculture, Aquatic, and Natural Resources Research and Development (CCAARRD), the Office of the Vice President for Research, Innovation, and Extension (OVPRIE), and the College of Agriculture and Agri-Industries (CSU-CAA) for their contributions to the workshop's success.
