Caraga State University (CSU) has officially inked its interest to collaborate with Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) and Universiti College Sabah Foundation (UCSF) for strengthening international academic linkages and research through the signing of a Letter of Intent (LOI) during the BIMP-EAGA International Research Conference and Training in Puerto Princesa City, Palawan.

This conference is organized by the Philippine EAGA-Higher Education Institutions Consortium (PEHEIC), of which CSU is a founding member along with eight (8) other Higher Education Institutions in the country.

BIMP-EAGA (Brunei Darussalam–Indonesia–Malaysia–Philippines East ASEAN Growth Area) is a sub-regional economic cooperation initiative intended to boost development and connectivity in less developed areas of Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia, and the Philippines.

University President Dr. Rolyn C. Daguil, Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Datuk Kasim Hj Manson of UMs, and Vice Chancellor Datuk Dr. Rafiq Idris led the signing. This partnership hopes to foster faculty and student exchanges and capacity-building programs to advance development and innovation in the BIMP-EAGA region.

Becoming one of PEHEIC’s founding members

Established in 2023, the Philippine EAGA-Higher Education Institutions Consortium (PEHEIC) targets propagating learning opportunities for advancement in human resources, socio-cultural, and economic sectors through internationalization with both private and public universities in Brunei Darussalam, Indonesia, Malaysia, and the Philippines, specifically in the latter’s Mindanao and Palawan.

CSU’s inclusion as one of the founding members of the consortium is poised to advance research expertise and technological innovation across its five strategic pillars, with particular focus on connectivity, tourism, and shared learning for sustainable communities. This collaboration also shows the university’s evolving role as an emerging leader in creating, managing, and expanding linkages and study areas.

Another highlight of the activity, aside from the ceremonial signing, is the BIMP-EAGA International Research Conference and Training. It follows the theme “Strengthening BIMP-EAGA Foundation on Resiliency, Inclusivity, Sustainability, and Economic Competitiveness,” which ran from August 26 to 28.

The CSU delegation was composed of 37 faculty and staff from the Cabadbaran and Butuan campuses, 28 of whom presented their respective papers on connectivity, food basket, tourism, environment, socio-cultural, and education strategic pillars. The following four (4) faculty members were recognized among best presenters out of the 131 presenters:
