Caraga State University (CSU) continues to advance its commitment to innovation and sustainability through the conduct of the ECOSMART University: A Sustainable Planning Writeshop for CSU’s Smart and Green Campus Development from October 20–22, 2025, at Haze Kaffee, Claveria, Gingoog, Misamis Oriental.

This initiative, anchored on the LIKHA Agenda of University President Dr. Rolyn C. Daguil, underscores CSU’s commitment to institutional growth through innovation, creativity, and sustainable planning. It aims to strengthen CSU’s competitiveness by integrating sustainability and technology-driven strategies.

The three-day writeshop gathered stakeholders and experts from the Butuan and Cabadbaran campuses to refine two major initiatives—the Smart Campus Development Plan and the Green Campus Development Plan—which are integral components of the CSU Land Use Development and Infrastructure Plan (LUDIP). These plans operationalize CSU’s Digital and Smart Vision and Sustainable Vision, providing strategic direction toward a technology-enabled, eco-conscious, and future-ready campus.

The activity was spearheaded by Dr. Michelle V. Japitana, Vice President for Executive Operations and Chairperson of the Committee, and supported by Co-Chairperson Dr. Alexander T. Demetillo, Vice President for Administration and Finance.  Ar. Magichael B. Cloribel, the Director of the Engineering and Construction Office (ECO) facilitated the sessions. Committee members, university stakeholders, and experts collaborated in formulating strategies through contextual analyses using Gaps and TOWS approaches, the Futures Triangle method, and the development of Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).

The writeshop concluded with the consolidation of outputs defining milestones and timelines that will guide the implementation of CSU’s Smart and Green Campus initiatives.

Through this endeavor, Caraga State University reaffirms its commitment to becoming an ECO Smart University by 2030, embodying digital excellence, environmental stewardship, and sustainable development in pursuit of a smarter and greener future for the Caraga Region and beyond.
