The Caraga State University served as the venue for the Culmination Activity of the 18-Day Campaign to End Violence Against Women (VAW) 2025 on December 12, an advocacy that the university likewise supported.

Regional agencies and partners convened to reaffirm the collective commitment of RIACAT-VAWC Caraga and its partner institutions to advancing women’s rights, strengthening protection mechanisms, and fostering communities anchored in respect, equality, and human dignity. The gathering was formally opened by Dr. Michelle V. Japitana, Vice President for Executive Operations and the University’s sole female executive, whose welcome address raised awareness of the call for unified action against violence against women and children.

The program featured a special screening of Walang Rape sa Bontok, a documentary that highlights how the Bontok people have preserved a rape-free culture through strong communal values and indigenous practices, offering valuable insights into community-based violence prevention. They also recognized outstanding advocacy efforts, awarding winners of the KahiVAWlo Ka Ba? Quiz Bowl and top entries in the DepEd Film-Making Contest for promoting awareness on violence against women through knowledge and creative storytelling.

This activity not only marks the formal close of the 18-day advocacy period but also emphasizes the continuous responsibility of all institutions and duty-bearers to actively combat violence against women and children. Its conduct within Caraga State University shows the University’s role as a key academic and social institution that advances gender equality, human rights, and community engagement through a strategic platform for advocacy and collaboration.
