Caraga State University proudly hosted the first-ever Rescuelympics in the Caraga Region on July 22-23, 2025, led by the Office of Civil Defense, as a highlight in the observance of the 37th National Disaster Resilience Month (NDRM) in July.

The Rescuelympics gathered six (6) professional response teams in the region, which competed in three (3) rescue exercises: fire, medical, and rope rescue. Showcasing exceptional life-saving skills, teamwork, and operational readiness, the All-Hazards Local Incident Management Action Team (ALIMAT) from Butuan City was declared champion.

On July 30, the Caraga Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (RDRRMC) concluded the national disaster resilience month with the theme: KUMIKILOS (Kayang Umaksyon ng Mamamayan na Isabuhay ang Kahandaan ng bawat Isa para maging Ligtas sa Oras ng Sakuna) para sa Kahandaan, Kaligtasan, at Katatagan.

CarSU, represented by DRRM Director Urlie G. Anino, MSc, IMT, and Engineering and Construction Office Director Ar. Magichael B. Cloribel, received the plaque of commendation for its sustained partnership, notably as the official venue of the Resuelympics. Anino and Cloribel also received commendations as regional earthquake drill evaluators during the nationwide simultaneous drills in March and June this year.

The national observance highlighted the region’s collective capacity and readiness for disaster response and calls for heightened partnership and commitment of public and private sectors and the communities at large for a region that is disaster-ready, resilient, and responsive, which CarSU equally champions responsive to Sustainable Development Goal No. 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities). | with report from Civil Defense Caraga
