Mr. Christian G. Belleza, a BS Mathematics first-year student, emerged as the champion of the 29th Philippine Statistics Quiz (PSQ) Caraga Regional Championship held on November 6, 2025, at Go Hotels, Robinsons Place, Butuan City.

Belleza, together with Ms. Faye Stephanie F. Bihag (BS Information Technology), represented the Butuan City Division in the regional stint. Both were mentored by Mr. Jeriel S. Rendeza and Ms. Rachel B. Apdo of the Mathematics Department under the College of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (CMNS).

Ten contestants from the Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) of the Caraga Region vied for the regional title through three consecutive rounds. Following Belleza’s feat were the contestants from Philippine Normal University-Mindanao (second place) and Surigao del Norte State University (third place).

With this triumph, Mr. Belleza will advance to the National Finals of the 29th PSQ, set on December 10, 2025, where he will represent the Caraga Region.

The Philippine Statistics Quiz (PSQ) is a nationwide annual contest in Statistics that is open to all Filipino first-year students. Not only does it assess students’ competency and skills of students, but it also champions the advocacy in the use of statistics for evidence-based decision-making. The participation of the university forms part of its celebration of the 36th National Statistics Month.

Congratulations, Mr. Belleza and coaches. Bugsay!
