Golden Paddlers win in provincial statistics quiz

Mr. Christian G. Belleza (BS Mathematics), Ms. Faye Stephanie F. Bihag (BS Information Technology), and Mr. Romyl Gabrielle E. Roncales (BS Civil Engineering) — all first-year students from the university — won respective placements in the provincial elimination leg of the 29th Philippine Statistical Quiz (PSQ) held on October 28, 2025, at the Butuan Southville Hotel and Convention Center, Villa Kananga, Butuan City.

After three challenging rounds, Mr. Belleza emerged as the 1st place winner, while Ms. Bihag secured 2nd place in the Butuan City Division. Mr. Roncales also delivered a commendable performance, placing 5th overall. With their outstanding performance, Mr. Belleza and Ms. Bihag will advance to the PSQ Regional Elimination on November 6, 2025. Mr. Jeriel S. Rendeza and Ms. Rachel B. Apdo from the Mathematics Department of the College of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (CMNS) served as the representatives’ mentors.

The Philippine Statistics Quiz (PSQ) is a nationwide annual contest in Statistics that is open to all Filipino first-year students. Not only does it assess students’ competency and skills of students, but it also champions the advocacy in the use of statistics for evidence-based decision-making. The participation of the university forms part of its celebration of the 36th National Statistics Month.
