Twenty-six (26) agencies and institutions in the Caraga Region gathered on March 3, 2025, to open the National Women’s Month celebration, honoring women’s rights and contributions across all sectors and in nation-building.

Caraga State State University (CSU) hosted the kick-off ceremony at the University Culture and Arts Center, following the motorcade at Guingona Park, Butuan City.  It follows the theme: “Babae sa Lahat ng Sector, Aangat ang Bukas sa Bagong Pilipinas,” highlighting the contributions of women across all sectors and calling for the active dismantlement of barriers to gender equality.

University President Rolyn C. Daguil, PhD, opened the ceremony with a welcome message also calling for everyone’s support in the cause: “This celebration reminds us that the journey towards a just and inclusive society is continuous, and there is still much work to be done. [We have] to take action to achieve gender equality. It is a shared duty that requires all sectors of society.

Commission on Population and Development (CPD) – Caraga Region Regional Director and Chairperson of the Regional Gender and Development Committee (RGADC) Caraga Alexander A. Makinano, echoed the same call, noting that “many women still face discrimination,  harassment, violence, especially in the marginalized sectors.” He encourages focusing on those vulnerable and in need of utmost support because “gender equality is everyone’s responsibility.

The Women’s Month Celebration in the Philippines is anchored on the global commemoration of International Women’s Day (IWD) every 8th of March. It serves as a “platform for celebrating women’s achievements while  addressing critical  issues concerning women’s empowerment and gender equality.”

CSU, through the Gender and Development (GAD) Office, prepared a series of activities related to the month-long celebration. To know more about the events and related updates, please visit its official Facebook page.
