In the July 2024 publication of Webometrics’ Ranking of World Universities by the Cybermetrics Lab, the Caraga State University (CSU) climbed to the 42nd spot out of 364 Philippine Higher Education Institutions (HEIs), improving from its previous rank of 48th last year.

The university achieved an Impact Rank of 14574, an Openness Rank of 5339, and an Excellence Rank of 6000. This accomplishment also cements CSU’s status as the top university in Caraga based on the ranking.

The Cybermetrics Lab, a research division of the Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas (CSIC), Spain’s largest public research organization, compiles the Webometrics ranking. This ranking assesses the performance of 32,000 Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) from more than 200 countries, utilizing both webometric (all missions) and bibliometric (research mission) indicators to provide a multidimensional and updated view of their global performance based on web presence and impact.

While Cybermetrics evaluates universities through their websites, the ranking does not reflect the features or usability of these online properties. The assessment focuses on higher education institutions based on three criteria: the volume of content available on the website, the visibility of this content, and the impact, measured by how frequently these materials are linked to other online research sources.

The primary goal of the Webometrics ranking is to promote web publication by supporting open and electronic access to scientific and academic materials. The web indicators used in the ranking measure global performance and visibility, offering a comprehensive view of university activities beyond just research results.

Bugsay, CSU!
