CSU takes part in PASUC dialogue on innovation, sustainability in SUCs

Caraga State University joined the convergence of 113 state universities and colleges (SUCs) at the 2025 PASUC Midterm Convention and General Assembly in Pasay City, tackling pressing issues in higher education, governance, sustainability, digital transformation, and institutional innovation from July 9 to 11.

The Philippine Association of State Universities and Colleges (PASUC) serves as the umbrella organization of all SUCs in the country, working to advance the quality of education, research, and public service. This year’s convention follows the theme, “Forging the Future: Empowering SUCs through Innovation, Sustainability, and Excellence,” calling for a collective commitment to reshape Philippine higher education to meet the fast-evolving demands of the nation and the world.

Department of Budget and Management (DBM) Secretary Hon. Amenah F. Pangandaman delivered the keynote address. She urged SUC leaders to embrace digitalization, transparency, and sustainability in fiscal governance. The rest of the keynote lectures centered on fostering innovation, sustainability, excellence, global competitiveness, and good governance among SUCs, including challenges, trends, and the future of higher education.

PASUC reported more than 1,000 presidents, academicians, academic leaders, and administrative personnel who attended the convention. Leading the CSU delegation was University President Rolyn C. Daguil, PhD, along with Vice Presidents Michelle V. Japitana, D.Eng (Executive Operations), Jeffrey T. Dellosa, D.Eng (Research and Development, Innovation, and Extension), and Vicente A. Pitogo, DIT (Academic Affairs). Division Chiefs Engr. Jobelle J. Capilitan (Information and Public Affairs), Jona J. Biongcog, PhD (Academic Affairs – Cabadbaran Campus), Maria Annie B. Mortola, MAEd (Student Affairs and Auxiliary Services – Cabadbaran Campus), and OP Executive Assistant Nathan Kit Berro were also in attendance.

This year’s convention “reinforced the shared responsibility of SUCs in building a future-ready Philippines.” Relative to such, CSU continues to position itself as a socially-engaged university that prioritizes innovation and global excellence, responsive to Sustainable Development Goals No. 4 (Quality Education) and No. 9 (Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure.) /with report from PASUC
