Caraga State University – Research Ethics Board (CSU-REB) has been officially accredited as the first and only Ethics Review Committee (ERC) in the entire region by the Philippine Health Research Ethics Board (PHERB). This historic recognition cements CSU-REB’s position as a trailblazer in upholding the highest standards of ethical research, paving the way for transformative health studies that prioritize integrity, safety, and community impact.

PHERB granted one-year provisional accreditation as a Level 1 Research Ethics Committee, effective February 5, 2026, until next year.

The accreditation follows through evaluations of the board’s processes, expertise, and commitment to global ethical guidelines comparable to those of the Declaration of Helsinki and CIOMS. From streamlined review protocols to robust member training and conflict-of-interest safeguards, every aspect of CSU’s REB shone through, earning provisional accreditation.

This achievement is a game-changer for Caraga’s research ecosystem. As the region’s sole accredited ERC, CSU-REB now empowers local researchers, academics, and health innovators to conduct studies with national credibility. No longer bound by external reviews from distant boards, projects in vital areas like One Health, public health, and medical innovation can accelerate, bringing faster solutions to pressing challenges such as infectious diseases, environmental health, and community well-being.

Looking ahead, CSU-REB stands ready to support a surge in high-impact research for faculty, students, and partner institutions, guiding work through ethical excellence.
