Golden Paddlers bag awards at DOST’s LUNSAD National Innovation Day 2026

Select teams representing the university earned awards at the LUNSAD National Innovation Day 2026 Hackathon and Pitching Competition, organized by the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Caraga and held at the Activity Center on the 3rd Floor of CSU HERO Learning Commons on April 21, 2026. 

These teams won in the Circular Economy Track Challenges: 1) Team E-WISE, composed of Bachelor of Science in Information Sciences (BSIT) and Bachelor of Science in Information Systems (BSIS) 4th-year students Ms. Shaira Jane G. Alaba, Ms. Kristine A. Duro, and Mr. Jetross Axle Galinato with their Coach Mr. Paolo A. Duga secured 1st Place in the Circular Economy Track (Student Category); 2) Team HuskLink, composed of BSIS faculty members Ms. Jordylene G. Sagusay, Ms. Kimberly Ann B. Palaran, and Mr. Paulo A. Duga, earned 2nd Place in the Professional Category; and 3) CSU’s Cabadbaran Campus (CSUCC) team secured 3rd Place, also in the Professional Category. 

Meanwhile, in the Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (DRRM) Track, Team STRIDE, composed of Bachelor of Science in Computer Science (BSCS) 4th-year and BSIT 3rd-year students, Mr. Christian A. Balasabas, Mr. Edgar Lino L. Hinlo, and Mr. Lloyd Bill M. Lariosa, garnered 2nd Place in the Student Category.  Team STRIDE was mentored by Engr. James Earl Cubillas. 

A special recognition was also handed to the GASPER Team, composed of Engr. Ervine E. Lanquino, Engr. Jedea Jethro A. Bullanday, Engr. Robert Lee M. Bawiga and Mr. Paolo L. Pacaldo, for their participation in the DRRM Professional Category, 

The university acknowledges the valuable contribution of student innovators under Team Ascribo.AI (John Vianney P. Jandayan, Mac Tomi Bandialan, and Hannah Sophia L. Villanueva), Team BisNest (Jetross Axle Galinato, Roman R. Osorio, Prince Niño D. Antigo, Centmarde J. Campado, and Mardz Allyna C. Lidasan), and Team Sinawali Showdown (Centmarde J. Campado, Mardz Allyna C. Lidasan, Mark Daniel M. Jamisola, and Lloyd Bill M. Lariosa)

The event brought together innovators, entrepreneurs, researchers, stakeholders, and neighboring state universities and colleges (SUCs) across the region. Innovators, composed of students and professionals, joined and competed in the Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (DRRM) and Circular Economy AI Hackathon, which is one of the event’s highlights. 

These accomplishments highlight CSU’s continued commitment to advancing innovation, research, and technology-driven solutions addressing real-world challenges and contributing to sustainable development. The University commends all participants for their dedication, creativity, and exemplary performance in representing the institution.
