As part of the University’s continuing commitment to fostering a safe, inclusive, and gender-responsive workplace, the Gender and Development (GAD) Program and Training Development Unit (GPTDU) successfully conducted the Gender Sensitivity Training (GST) for newly hired personnel on July 15, 2026, at the New Administration Building Conference Hall.
Engr. Stephanie Mae B. Salcedo-Albores, Chief of the Division of Strategic Foresight and Management, opened the activity by relaying the importance of gender responsiveness, respect, and inclusivity in creating a productive and supportive university environment.
This activity’s speaker is Ms. Doreen Marielle N. Rosales, Information Officer II of the Commission on Human Rights (CHR), who discussed the Basic Concepts of Gender and Development (GAD) and relevant laws, particularly Republic Act No. 7877 (Anti-Sexual Harassment Act of 1995) and Republic Act No. 11313 (Safe Spaces Act), highlighting the rights and responsibilities of every member of the academic community in maintaining safe and respectful spaces.
In the afternoon, Ms. Rosales facilitated an engaging discussion on Sexual Orientation, Gender Identity and Expression, and Sex Characteristics (SOGIESC), promoting greater understanding of diversity, inclusion, and respect for individual identities and experiences.
The training also featured a session on the Caraga State University Safe Space Code, delivered by Ms. Marjorie L. Escartin, PMO Director and GPTDU Unit Head, which introduced participants to the University’s policies and mechanisms for ensuring a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment for students, faculty, staff, and stakeholders.
The activity concluded with an open forum, synthesis and reflection, and program evaluation, providing participants with the opportunity to share insights, ask questions, and reflect on their role in promoting gender equality and inclusivity within the University.
Through initiatives such as the Gender Sensitivity Training, Caraga State University continues to strengthen its commitment to building a community where everyone is treated with dignity, respect, and equality.
