Caraga State University continues to fortify its intellectual property portfolio, securing several new official protections from the Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines (IPOPHL). The announcement was made on May 8, 2026, by CSU’s Technology Transfer and Licensing Office (TTLO), which serves as the university’s Innovation & Technology Support Office (ITSO) franchise.
The latest batch of protected IP includes one industrial design, one patent, and four utility models, marking a significant milestone for the university’s research and development sector.
Among the highlights is the registration of the emblematic ‘Golden Paddlers’ sculpture, designed by Physics Associate Professor Joey Arles O. Vergara. The industrial design was officially registered on March 27, 2026, and has a term until February 21, 2030. The Automated Dust Suppression and Monitoring System, invented by Mark Harold B. Guitguiten and Assistant Professor Engr. Ronieto N. Mendoza received a patent grant on February 27, 2026, with a term until January 17, 2039.

Four utility models were also granted registration, providing legal protection for practical innovations created by CSU faculty and engineers. The utility models provided with registration grants are the following: 1) A Weight-Based Fuel Consumption Metering Device for Engine (March 27, 2026-December 22, 2029) created by Engr. Antonietto O. Cacayan, Jr., Engr. Jack I. Bertulfo, and Engr. Arnold G. Apdohan; 2) An Educational Apparatus for Teaching Trigonometric Lessons (March 27, 2026 – January 16, 2032) invented by Mr. Eubert R. Tagupa, Professor Alvic A. Arnado, Bembot P. Custodio, and Alan V. Osano; 3) A Compacting Device by Art M. Dalman, Mercedith Bagtilay, and Neil Caesar M. Tado; and 4) A Device for Slicing Snack-Based Food Products (March 27, 2026 – December 22, 2029) made by Engr. Jack O. Bertulfo and Ms. Gressa Mae L Santisas.

With these registration grants for patents and designs, CSU and its innovators now hold the exclusive legal authority to restrain and prohibit any unauthorized person or entity from manufacturing, using, selling, or importing the designs and patented processes.
