Caraga State University (CSU) and the Department of Agriculture – Regional Field Office XIII (DA-RFO XIII) held a coordination meeting to discuss the establishment of a Model Farm in the Board Room of the HERO Learning Commons on July 8, 2026. Facilitated by the DA-RFO XIII, the activity brought together key stakeholders, including representatives from DA-RFO XIII, various Seed Companies, and CSU’s executive officials.
In his opening remarks, CSU President Dr. Rolyn C. Daguil expressed sincere appreciation for the participants’ and guests’ time, interest, and collective commitment to the initiative. Dr. Daguil reaffirmed the university’s commitment to provide the land area and documentation support required throughout its implementation.
As the lead agency that facilitated the activity, the Regional Executive Director of DA-RFO XII, Engr. Ricardo M. Oñate Jr. conveyed the office’s full support and highlighted the significance of the Model Farm. He noted that the facility will serve as a reliable demonstration and learning site, giving local farmers the opportunity to observe firsthand the performance of quality inputs, thereby helping them make informed decisions for their own farms.
Subsequently, participating seed companies presented their respective products and explained how these would be applied within the Model Farm. They outlined proper planting methods, recommended application rates, crop management practices, and expected outcomes under local growing conditions. Each company agreed to use its best and most reliable products, ensuring the demonstration reflects realistic results that farmers can replicate.
During the open forum and agreement-setting, the stakeholders exchanged insights, clarified roles and responsibilities, and agreed on operational guidelines. Following the coordination meeting, the group conducted a site visit and selected trial areas for the Model Farm. Through an ocular inspection, they assessed different portions of the property and agreed on the most suitable locations to accommodate the demonstration plots.
Once fully operational, the Model Farm is envisioned to become a center for knowledge sharing and technology promotion. It will showcase not only quality agricultural products but also proper application techniques and good farming practices. Ultimately, the project aims to increase farm productivity, reduce production risks, and improve the income and livelihoods of farmers and agricultural stakeholders across the Caraga Region.
