Two Caraga State University (CSU) executives participated in the 21st Asean University Network Quality Assurance (AUN-QA) Tier 2 Training hosted by Prince of Songkla University (PSU). Dr. Michelle V. Japitana, Vice President for Executive Operations, and Dr. Vicente A. Pitogo, Vice President for Academic Affairs, joined the training held from June 4-10, 2026, in Hat Yai, Songkhla, Thailand.
The workshop provided hands-on experience in program assessment using the AUN-QA Framework Version 4.0. The primary goals of the Tier 2 Training were to enable participants to a) demonstrate competencies required to conduct a formal AUN-QA program assessment; b) apply the Plan-Do-Check-Act (PDCA) approach to assessment processes; c) formulate effective interview questions for diverse stakeholders; d) perform site assessments, including document reviews, facility tours, and stakeholder interviews; and e) produce high-quality assessment reports and presentations of preliminary findings.
The participation of VP Japitana and VP Pitogo provided a valuable opportunity to deepen understanding of the AUN-QA framework, particularly in program assessment, evidence-based evaluation, stakeholder engagement, report writing (as assessors), and improvement in the preparation of the Self-Assessment Report (SAR). The training further enhanced the competencies of quality assurance practitioners and assessors by exposing them to the actual conduct of program assessment, peer-learning activities, and discussions led by experienced coaches (both trainers and assessors) from across the ASEAN region for each group.
In addition, participating in the training helped strengthen competencies in conducting program-level assessment and improved the capability to support CSU’s quality assurance initiatives, accreditation efforts, and continuous improvement mechanisms, particularly in the academic pillar. There is enhanced understanding of the AUN-QA Version 4.0 framework, assessment principles, and evaluation methodologies. Furthermore, the training enhances CSU’s institutional readiness for future AUN-QA assessments and strengthens the alignment of academic programs with regional and international quality standards.
