Caraga State University-Main Campus invited three (3) State Universities and Colleges (SUCs) within the region to convene and drive forward food innovation and commercialization for Caraga on June 19 at HERO Learning Commons.

With full support from the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) and the Commission on Higher Education (CHED), all Caraga SUCs signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) to formally launch the Caraga Food Innovation Consortium (CFIC) with Secretary Amenah F. Pangandaman of the Department of Budget and Management. Sec. Panagandaman also serves as the event’s guest of honor and speaker, concurrent to her role as the 48th Commencement Exercises Guest Speaker.

The consortium projects a harmonized approach to research and development, innovation, and commercialization for the region following the Caraga Regional Development Plan. An exhibit of locally developed products from the university, Agusan del Sur College of Agriculture and Technology (ASSCAT), Surigao del Norte State University (SNSU), and North Eastern Mindanao State University (NEMSU) showed the region’s high potential in food research and marketing.

The activity solidified the partnership among government, academia, industry, and the community, furthering Sustainable Development Goals No. 1 (No Poverty), 2 (Zero Hunger), 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth), and 9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure).
