
Caraga State University (CSU), in partnership with the Department of Science and Technology–Philippine Council for Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources Research and Development (DOST–PCAARRD), highlighted the lasting impact of the DOST’s Balik Scientist Program through the Exit Report Presentation of Dr. Anthony B. Halog, Professor at The University of Queensland, on July 15, 2026.
Centered on “Transforming Philippine Agriculture through Circular Bioeconomy, Life Cycle Sustainability Assessment, and AI-enabled Sustainable Development,” the presentation showcased the accomplishments, knowledge transfer initiatives, and collaborative efforts achieved during Dr. Halog’s engagement, demonstrating how international expertise can strengthen local research and address pressing agricultural and environmental challenges.


The engagement produced significant research and capacity-building outcomes that will continue to benefit CSU and its stakeholders beyond the program period. Among these are international journal manuscripts, competitive research proposals, specialized training initiatives, and the development of a Circular Economy Microcredential Programme designed to equip students, researchers, and professionals with competencies in sustainable and circular agricultural systems.
Dr. Halog also underscored the value of strategic collaborations among academia, government, local communities, and international institutions, while demonstrating how systems thinking, Life Cycle Sustainability Assessment, Artificial Intelligence, and Digital Twins can support evidence-based planning, climate resilience, and resource-efficient agricultural development.
The successful completion of Dr. Halog’s Balik Scientist engagement reinforces CSU’s commitment to advancing research excellence through global partnerships and science-driven innovation. More importantly, the program has laid a strong foundation for future interdisciplinary collaborations, enhanced institutional research capability, and expanded opportunities for faculty, researchers, and students to contribute to sustainable agricultural transformation. As CSU continues to champion circular bioeconomy initiatives, the knowledge, partnerships, and research directions established through the Balik Scientist Program will serve as enduring catalysts for resilient, productive, and globally competitive agriculture in the Philippines.
