Professor Leong Yew Hoong is the university’s newest addition to its roster of international faculty members for mathematics educational courses under the College of Education and the Graduate Studies, beginning this incoming school year.

Dr. Leong is an Associate Professor at the National Institute of Education, Nanyang Technological University (NIE-NTU), Singapore. At CSU, he will teach Principles and Standards of Mathematics Education (Course Code: MATHED 307) to students in the Bachelor of Secondary Education major in Mathematics, Master of Science in Mathematics Education, and Doctor of Philosophy in Mathematics Education programs. He will also contribute his international expertise in the areas of mathematics instructional material design, innovative classroom pedagogy, and mathematics teacher development.

Prior to this appointment, Dr. Leong visited the university on April 28, 2025, where he served as a resource speaker in the Seminar-Workshop on Trends in Pedagogy and Research in Mathematics Education, attended by graduate students and faculty members.

Dr. Leong’s academic distinctions include serving as the current Chair of the MME Ethics Committee at NIE-NTU, Co-Chair of the Graduate Work Committee, and Program Leader for the EdD program with a Mathematics Specialization. He also mentors graduate research in mathematics education (PhD/MA) and works as a consultant to over 20 secondary school mathematics departments in Singapore.

An adjunct professor is a part-time or contract-based educator hired to teach specific college or university courses. They are commonly professionals or experts in their fields who bring practical, real-world experience to the classroom.

Dr. Leong will conduct lectures at least twice per semester through a team-teaching arrangement with Dr. Maris T. Lasco, who facilitated his collaboration with the university.

University President Dr. Rolyn C. Daguil expressed great enthusiasm for Dr. Leong’s inclusion in the university’s academic community.

Our mission to strengthen the core of our LIKHA Agenda, which aspires to nurture and propel global talents and innovators, is affirmed by Dr. Leong’s presence here in our institution. By welcoming international adjunct faculty, we provide our students with a rich and diverse learning environment—one that fosters creativity, critical thinking, and a deeper understanding of the world. This is a meaningful avenue for cultural exchange, and through engagements like this, we bring the world closer to our students and empower them to make their mark on the global stage

Dr. Leong’s addition, along with other international faculty members serving in similar capacities, is expected to significantly elevate the university’s academic standards and support its goals for internationalization, research, and extension collaboration. This initiative is also aligned with SDG Goals 4 (Quality Education) and 17 (partnership for the Goals).

We are happy to have you aboard our Balangay, Dr. Leong! Bugsay!
