As part of the newly forged Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) between Caraga State University (CSU) and the Philippine Space Agency (PhilSA) under the PhilSA Integrated Network for Space-enabled Actions towards Sustainability (PINAS), three faculty members from the Department of Geodetic Engineering and an affiliate of the Caraga Center for Geo-informatics (CCGeo) participated in the PINAS Academe for Space Science and Technology Applications (SSTA) Training.

Vice President for Executive Operations, Dr. Michelle V. Japitana, together with Engr. Arnaldo C. Gagula, and Engr. Dominique D. Magpatoc attended the training held on August 11–12, 2026, at the Philippine Space Agency in Quezon City.

The technical training formed part of the collaborative activities under the PINAS Academe partnership, providing university personnel with backgrounds in Space Science and Technology Applications (SSTA), Remote Sensing, and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) opportunities to enhance their knowledge and skills in the application of space-based data. The training focused on PhilSA methodologies for Environment, Agriculture, Land Cover, and Disaster applications.

The two-day program featured sessions on Introduction to DATOS Projects and Introduction to Remote Sensing, followed by breakout sessions on space-data processing for JuanMap and SAKA, and space-data processing for OpERA and DHARMA.

The training reflects the commitment of CSU and PhilSA to strengthen capacity development, knowledge exchange, satellite remote sensing, and geospatial technology applications as provided under their collaborative agreement. Through these initiatives, CSU continues to build technical capacity that supports research, instruction, extension, and innovation in addressing environmental and disaster-related challenges through space-enabled technologies.

Advancing geospatial knowledge. Strengthening space-enabled solutions. Empowering CSU for a sustainable future.
