CSU Biology Instructors attend 4th EENP Intl Confab

The Caraga State University and the Office of the Vice President for Research and Extension (OVPRE) sent Fabio C. Ruaza, Jr. and Eve V. Fernandez, both Biology instructors, as representatives for the 4th International Conference of the Environmental Education Network of the Philippines (EENP) last February 16-18, 2011.

EENP is the country’s independent network of institutions which provides advice and expertise on environmental education policies and programs appropriate to local, regional, national and international conditions. The Environmental Education Network of the Philippines sponsored and held its 4th International Conference at the Central Bicol State University of Agriculture (CBSUA) in Pili, Camarines Sur.

Revolving on the theme “Environmental Education for Disaster Risk Management”, more than 100 environmentalists from the government, private sector, non-government organizations and the academe all over the Philippines and nearby countries in Asia and United States convened and discussed latest research and development efforts on disaster risk reduction.

Caraga State University, as member institution of EENP, participated on the said conference. Mr. Fabio C. Ruaza, Jr. and Ms. Eve V. Fernandez presented poster presenter with their study entitled “Imposex Induction in Cronia margariticola (Broderip, 1832) and Thais tuberose (Roding, 1798) in the Coastal Barangays of Nasipit, Agusan del Norte”. More than 20 posters were presented and information was disseminated to all the researchers, extensionist, policy makers and other participants.

The EENP President Dr. Cecilia N. Gascon together with Dr. Paciencia P. Milan, Dr. Donna Paz Reyes and Dr. Ramon Docto (EENP Board Members) participated in the said conference. The CBSUA President, Atty. Marito T. Bernales welcomed the participants and the presenters coming from the places in the Philippines and other countries. The keynote address of Hon. Evelyn S. Yu, Mayor of the Municipality of Calabanga and the Kalasag Awardee 2010, and the plenary papers presented by some competent speakers tickled the minds of the participants on the importance of disaster risk management (DRM). Likewise, several topics in the different sessions focusing on environmental education approached to DRM, training and extension approaches in DRM, environmental resource management for DRM and institutional approaches were also discussed.
