CSU holds SOS for admin employees

Sixty four (64) CSU personnel compose of frontline administrative employees together with some academic officials were given the opportunity to harness their skills in managing stress with the conduct of the Seminar on Overcoming Stress (SOS) last February 7 and 8, 2011 at the CSU Conference Room.

The event was organized by the Office of the Director for Administration and Finance as spearheaded by its Director, Dr. Armie Leila M. Mordeno with resource persons coming from the Civil Service Commission, Caraga Region XIII namely Dir. Harold P. Pareja and Ms. Ruth C. Beniga.

The seminar was conducted in two (2) consecutive days with different participants per day in consideration of  the CSC policy on the conduct of  trainings where they emphasized that for a training to be effectively process by its participants a total number not to exceed 35 participants would be the most ideal.

Topics facilitated by Ms. Beniga were on nature and type of stress and the sources, symptoms and consequences of stress which were presented during the morning session. While Surigao del Sur CSC Director Pareja discussed the tools and skills in overcoming stress in the afternoon session.

Pres. Cuenca delivered the opening remarks at the start of the two-day activity and shared that somehow the emotions of every individuals are contagious which is why a need to equip the CSU frontline personnel and its academic officials on overcoming stress would be the most appropriate activity considering that everyone could not do away with challenges in their day to day lives.

A group deliberation on the individual approaches in coping up with stress was conducted with some of the participants presented before the group how they cope up with different stressful situations that happened to them both in their personal and professional lives.

Dir. Mordeno, on her closing remarks, imparted to the group that the activity is a benchmark   of the management plans of inviting resource speakers for future seminar/trainings instead of sending out only a selected number of personnel to attend local and national seminar/trainings. It would be part of the innovations that the administration will be pursuing to address the depleting budget from the national government due to the implementation of the Normative Financing among state universities and colleges.

A validation with Ms. Jenny B. Perez, Head of the CSC XIII Training and Development Unit, on the participants written evaluation of the seminar affirms their positive response for a seminar that cater both to their professional and personal growth . The said CSC evaluation was further validated with the evaluation facilitated by QUAMS Director Jonathan Tiongson.
