Dr. Joanna B. Cuenca headed the delegation of Caraga State University to the 24th Accrediting Agency of Chartered Colleges and Universities in the Philippines (AACCUP) National Conference last February 15-17, 2011 at the Great Eastern Hotel, Quezon City.
The President was joined by Dr. Myrna Marieta D. Kuizon, Dean of Graduate School and Engr. Jonathan M. Tiongson, Director for Quality Assurance Management Services.
The conference was geared to provide updates on the new policies, practices and materials (Manual, Program Performance Profile, and Accreditation Instruments) on program accreditation. It was also designed to expose the similarities and differences of institutional and program accreditation, and apprise participants on the new frontiers of accreditation such as Washington Accord Standards, and Distance Learning. Attendees were the SUC Presidents, Chairs/Heads of Internal Accreditation Bodies, and Deans/Senior Faculty.
Highlights of the Conference include (included) the Keynote Address of Hon. Patricia B. Licuanan, the Chairman of the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) who has gave comprehensive current state of the higher education in the Philippines as well as direction of the initiatives undertaken by the commission to address the challenges. The guest of honor and speaker, Hon. Juan Edgardo M. Angara, Chairman on Higher and Technical Education of the House of Representatives spoke on the legislative initiatives undertaken in support of improving the quality of higher education in the country.
International speakers included Dr. Hazman Shah Abdullah, the Assistant Vice Chancellor and Professor from Universiti Teknologi, Malaysia, and consultant of Malaysian Qualifications Agency who spoke on Institutional Accreditation - The Malaysian Experience. Dr. George Jang Jyi Jiang, President of the Higher Education, Evaluation and Accreditation Council of Taiwan (HEEACT) together Dr. Angela Yung-Chi Hou, Director, Fu Jen Catholic University and Dean of HEEACT spoke on Evaluation and Ranking of Universities – The Taiwan Experience.
Engr. Ranulfo C. Feliciano and Engr. Monsaga of the Philippine Technological Council spoke on Washington Accord-Based Engineering Accreditation. Dr. Nelson T. Binag, Vice President of International Distance Education Accreditation League (IDEAL) spoke on Distance Education Accreditation.
The conference stood true to its theme “Advancing the Frontiers of Accreditation”.
